Adult's classes

Your first class

Each class begins with a formal bow, followed by a short warm-up led by one of our senior students. There are no fitness requirements to participate, you can just join in as well as you feel able to. For the rest of the session, a senior student will supervise you personally, and you will be shown basic techniques aimed specifically at beginners. You will be taught how to break your fall when thrown, and will be shown some of the more basic techniques from the yellow belt syllabus. Above all we will focus on staying safe, and you will only be required to do what is comfortable for you.

What to wear

Beginners can train in any strong, light clothing e.g. T-shirt and track suit bottoms. All jewellery should be removed prior to training. Students train barefoot in a traditional Japanese jacket and trousers which can be purchased later through the club if you choose to join us.

Children's classes

Our children's classes (ages 6-13) are all about learning through fun. Sessions develop fitness, coordination, and balance through games and structured practice, while the discipline of the dojo helps build confidence and self-esteem. Children are taught how to fall safely from their very first lesson, and all training is closely supervised by our experienced DBS-checked instructors. As their skills grow, children work through their own junior syllabus towards each belt grading, which take place every few months.
